Chapter 9
The Wait is a Weight
Elder Shirley Myers
Last week; The discussion was disruptions that have the potential of hindering
our NEXT. “What about disruptions that catapult you to your NEXT???
This week in chapter discussion is -The wait {Is a Weight} that must be
carried and laid aside in life.”
{Isaiah 40:31} AMP- But those who wait for the LORD [who expect, look for,
and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising
toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, they will walk and not
grow tired.
Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT): This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it
will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take
place. It will not be delayed.
Question: Why is waiting a weight? What is it about us that we don’t want to wait?
Waiting is uncomfortable!
It challenges our desire for control; That’s probably why waiting is
universally disliked. So, we must learn to…
Embrace the tension
1. Life is full of uncertainty, delays, disappointments, pain, and a sense of
powerlessness create tension.
One of the Hebrew words for waiting expresses this. Qavah combines tension
with a sense of anticipation or looking ahead.
The word’s origins are connected to the twisting or stretching of a
cord—tension is part of what it means to wait
When we had all the time in the world!
Psalms 27:14 (NLT): Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes,
wait patiently for the Lord
2. What does it look like to wait well?
Its waiting with active obedience! You can focus on his trustworthiness, not on
your/our expected timing.
It’s an opportunity to renew our trust in a God who loves us unconditionally!
How can I be a Trustworthy Steward of the time in between?
So, the first thing that the disciples did with their time in between was to choose
to obey what Jesus had said…
Waiting faithfully means waiting with active obedience.
So, often when we’re waiting, there’s a temptation to sit around and do nothing.
We despise waiting because we equate waiting with Inaction. And yet, the reality
is that waiting is not the same thing as spectating.
Jesus didn’t tell the disciples to go to Jerusalem and do nothing; He told them
to go and wait on God to move.
Every one of us who is walking with Jesus has a living relationship with the
Eternal God. Whether it’s been for five minutes, or five years, God has revealed
something of Himself and what He desires to us.
3. When we’re not sure what’s going on, or what else to do, we need to call
those things back to mind.
1. Remember who God is!
2. Remember what He’s already shown you!
3. Waiting on God means I learn to live on what you and I know to be true
about God when we don’t know what’s true about our life!
While waiting, just remember to follow what God has already said! Ask yourself:
Have you been faithful with all that God has already revealed to you?
If we’re not careful, our seasons of waiting will cause us to isolate. And that’s
when we begin to feel lost, forgotten, and discouraged. But this is why God
gives us each other or the church!
Just remember this one lesson; God doesn’t call us on a solo mission!
The disciples didn’t go to Jerusalem to separate homes and go on with
their lives; they leaned in together! Why because while waiting, we need
support, and where can we find support? Hopefully; in the community of
faith!
In Closing-Take aways:
God wants us to wait faithfully because He wants us surrendered completely. God
Is Faithful!!!
Knowing the Trenches to avoid the frustration of waiting and wasting our
seasons.
Take aways: The three A’s
Anger: Waiting and anger go together.
Anxiety: If anger take action, anxiety embraces overthinking.
Apathy: Anger demands change. Anxiety wants to think. Apathy
stops caring.
“Waiting on God means I learn to live on what I know to be true about God when I don’t know what’s true about your life.
