Chapter 10 – Leaning Back (A Leaning Into)

God has a desire to push in or lean into every situation of our lives, if we are willing to give
Him the access. God’s leaning in can be disruptive, inconvenient, and feel unnecessary,
but there is always a purpose in the movement. If God has a desire to lean towards you
(which He does), it is incumbent upon us to lean in His direction and not the direction we
think we should lean towards. Like many things when it comes to God, there is a
requirement necessary to take full advantage of God’s presence in our lives. Are you ready
to lean into His direction????

1. Leaning Back: Leaning into the plans and purposes of God as God is leaning
toward you, it is YOUR RESPONSE to receive and embrace what is happening in
your life. Leaning means to support, sustain, help, unflinching.

***Question 1: What does leaning into God’s promises look like for you?***
2. What is a Covenant?
a. A covenant is a contract; a commitment; an agreement between God and His
people.
i. Covenants require agreement
ii. If we break the covenant there can be consequences
iii. As it relates to leaning into the promises of God, covenants are to be
embraced. The covenant with God is imperative to get us from our
current position to our NEXT calling!!
iv. When we willingly lean into God’s presence, power, and purpose for
our lives, He ignites our gifts, grants undeserving, unmerited grace
and is totally committed to our growth in Him!!
v. Agreement Releases Acceleration! (pg. 105)

***Question 2: Has there ever been a time where you didn’t agree with your direction
in life? Was that direction your making or God’s making?***

1. ‘The attitude of agreement means that you agree to live in
concord without contention, to come to one mind, and to be
consistent with God’s viewpoint for your next.’ – Bishop Tim pg.
105

b. Leviticus 26:9-10 AMPC states, “For I will be leaning toward you with favor
and regard for you, rendering you fruitful, multiplying you, and
establishing and ratifying My covenant with you. [II Kings 13:23.] And you
shall eat the [abundant] old store of produce long kept and clear out the
old [to make room] for the new.”

i. The ‘leaning toward you with favor’ in the New King James Version
means to ‘look favorably.’
ii. Other versions say God will turn toward you, He will give you His full
attention, and that God will treat you with such kindness!

***Question 3: What things are necessary from us to truly embrace what God
wants to do in our lives?***

3. Benefits of Leaning Toward God
a. Bring you comfort at the beginning and throughout your NEXTing! (pg. 120)
b. You’re doing exactly what God had purposed for you
c. Means you are open to growth, development, and change. (pg. 123)

4. How to Express When You and God are Leaning into Together?
a. Acknowledge that God is leaning towards you (pg. 123)
b. It also can be expressed in your usefulness, showing the same grace God has
shown you to others.

5. Takeaways
a. Leaning back and leaning into the plans and purposes of God, as He leans
toward us, requires a response, an acceptance to His presence in our lives.
b. God’s presence, power, and purpose for our lives ignites our gifts, God’s
unwavering grace, and His commitment to growth in our lives!
c. God leaning toward us means He is looking favorably upon us and the life He
has predestined us to live!
d. God’s covenant with us is everlasting! He will never change; it is up to us to
preserve, cultivate, and embrace the covenant God created and graciously allowed us to partake.
